I still have a few things I'd like to do, but we ran out of our blow money for the house, so we're back to saving up to finish this project (and work on others we have tabbed to do).
You can see the before pictures on this post.
My main goal with this update was to get a REAL bed (we've always used air mattresses in our guest room, and I've hated having to offer an air mattress on the ground to my guests) with nice bedding, window panels and new paint.
Here's the view from the hallway:
I painted the walls a light gray color. I wanted something that was soothing, neutral, and not tan/beige :) In the light it sometimes has a very faint blue-ish tint. I didn't think it would have that, but it works and I still love it.
the window panels were me trying to make myself stretch and get out of my comfort zone. I have a thing about home decor. I just don't like doing stuff out of the box. It makes me nervous. I saw these panels and decided to try them out. I have to admit, they still make me nervous. But everyone that sees them says they love them, so they stayed.
love the curtain rod. I hung the panels with clip on hooks, since that added some length to the panels and allowed us to hang the curtains a little higher.
I went back and forth about white bedding. I finally bit the bullet. I LOVE it. It's so crisp and clean looking.
Drew made the headboard. I love being married to a handyman. I just showed him the plans I found online and he said "sure, I can do that." He made it, and then I distressed, stained and sealed it. Teamwork at its best.
The orange pillow was a total steal of a find at TJ Maxx. LOVE that place!
I still need to purchase new sheets for the guest bed. I also would like to make some sort of cute gallery wall above the long side of the bed. Above the headboard, I'd like to make this mirror:
I'd also like to add some euro pillows on the bed as well, in a navy and white chevron print. Considering euro shams cost close to $30 a piece, that may be a while.
We have a double closet in this room as well. Since it's a guest room and we don't really need a double closet, I'm thinking about turning the right side of the closet into one of those cool closet desks that I've seen on Pinterest. Here's my favorite idea on that:
Obviously with a different color scheme :)
I have not been successful in finding a night stand that I like, so I'm thinking I may put my handyman back to work to construct a nightstand to the custom dimensions that I need. Here's the one I like:
And that's my guest room (so far). Now I just need guests.... who's coming to visit? ;)
