- Be on your guard. My heart is heavy for my boys who will have to grow up in a society that is inundated with pornagraphy, sexual messages and moral relativism. I never want my boys to let their guard down, and pray that they will remember to always be on their guard, because there is an enemy who would love nothing more than to steal their hearts.
- Stand firm in the faith. It's hard to stand firm when everyone else around you is pulling you in opposite directions. I pray that my boys will stay grounded to what they know is the truth, and instead be a pillar in the darkness.
- Be men of courage. I want my boys to be courageous in all that they do. I often tell Brayden that he's a part of our family, and our family is not one that quits. I know that sounds kind of harsh to tell a 3 year old, but I want Brayden to know that I believe and know that he has what it takes to do whatever he sets his mind to. I want to cultivate courage now so that when the waters are deeper later, he'll know that he can take on anything.
- Be strong. I want my boys to be strong. Strong in the faith, strong for their future families, strong in their work ethic and the work of their hands. A man that is strong will lead people gently but with authority.
I plan on printing this verse and framing it for their room. Do you have verses that hold special meaning for your kids?
1 Corinthians 16:13 (NIV 1984):
Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. Do everything in love.
