Our engagement story is actually pretty hilarious. Drew was deployed at the time and was coming home for his R&R. My family had just gotten back from a Carribbean cruise and I knew he'd be talking with my dad since he didn't really have a way to make it secret since we were all staying out of town. I assumed, however, that he'd wait until he got back from the deployment before he popped the question. After we had spent the week after Christmas with my family, we headed back up to U of A to spend New Years Eve with my best friends and their husbands/fiances.On the way up I was talking to Drew and told him that I was bummed we were the only non-engaged/married coupl. He agreed and we continued talking, and I never thought anything of it. As we were getting into town, Drew mentioned that he wanted to stop by a local park that we had always walked at on Wednesday nights. I really didn't want to go because I hadn't taken a shower that day, it was cold, and I needed to get my house ready for the guests coming over. He kept insisting that we go to the park, and after about an hour of back and forth bickering I agreed to go with him. We pulled up to the castle at the park and we got out. It was cold, and by this point I was kind of in a goofy mood. He then got all serious on me and told me he wanted to sit on a bench and pray for us and our relationship since that day marked a year from the day he first told me he loved me. So we sat down and he started talking. I was farting and being all goofy, and he started getting frustrated that I was being that way. I still had no idea at this point what was going on (Drew could get sappy at times so it wasn't really that abnormal at this point). Drew started praying and when he was finished I started singing this song I used to sign when I was little after prayer... "Aaaaammen, Aaaaamen, AMEN, AMEN AMEN!" Then I burped... in his face. He just sat there (in pure astonishment I am sure). Then he told me he had a question for me, pulled out the ring and got down on one knee. I totally thought he was pulling my leg, and so I kept hitting him on the shoulder and telling him to quit kidding. He kept saying "Linds this is not a joke!" and finally was like "Linds, please just answer!", so I realized he was being serious and said yes! We quickly drove to my best friend Stephanie's apartment and I bursted through the door at lightening speed. Our mutual friends Brian and Christy were there also, so we all had a little celebration together. The fun part of the story is that we weren't the non-engaged/married couple I thought we'd be that night, and the year definitely ended with a bang!
