The Reintroduction

I am a Babywise believer. Take it or leave it. I know that some stuff doesn't work for certain families, but for our family, it has worked like a charm. Sleeping through the night at 6 weeks, napping right on schedule (well, most days anyway!), a sense of structure to our day... it works. One of the things that Babywise encourages families to do is to have a set time of the day where their infant, and later child, has a time where they play by themselves. Obviously in a safe place, either in a playpen or a room that is solely dedicated to that child. With our house being so small, we chose to just independent playtime in B's room. It worked for us! So well in fact, that I figured he had "gotten" it by 10 months, and took away structured playtime, allowing him to play on his own whenever he pleased. That worked for about 2 months but then he digressed. ALOT. And lately I've noticed his need for me to play with him ALL the time. Don't get me wrong, I love playing with Brayden, teaching him new things and interacting, but there are things around the house that I need to get done. I can't just sit at his becking call every second of every day. So today, we start a reintroduction of Independent playtime. So far, the first 15 minutes have gone by relatively uneventful, you know, besides the fussing every so often and the breaking free from the baby gate. But it HAS to be done. For my sanity and for his sake. I want him to be OK with playing by himself and with thinking up new games and toys. Especially when baby #2 comes and I won't have near as much time to devote solely to him. So if you think about it, send a little prayer my way that the reintroduction will go smoothly and that we'll start seeing a bit of change in B's clinginess.
